EPIGENEDIT: OUR STORY
We are a dynamic duo who bring decades of medical expertise to the field of longevity. Katrin, a certified doctor and consultant plastic surgeon, and Danijela, a former ICU nurse, transitioned from traditional medicine to become pioneering specialists in cosmetic aesthetics.
Having treated thousands of patients globally, we recognised the profound connection between physical appearance and individuals' attitudes toward wellbeing and longevity.
OUR LONGEVITY AWEKENING
As we entered our late 40s and early 50s, we found ourselves experiencing the very challenges that would later bring patients to our practice. Katrin was noticing changes in her athletic performance during ski touring, while both of us were navigating the physical and emotional shifts that come with midlife.
Despite our medical expertise and successful careers treating thousands of patients, we realised we were facing the same questions about ageing, vitality and longevity as everyone else. The difference was our unique position to do something about it.
This personal intersection of professional knowledge and lived experience became the catalyst for our deep dive into longevity science. We weren't just researching for our patients. We were researching for ourselves, seeking solutions we could personally validate before sharing with others.
OUR IMMERSION INTO LONGEVITY
When the COVID-19 pandemic temporarily paused our clinical practices, we seized this unexpected opportunity to immerse ourselves fully in longevity research.
We tested countless biohacks, supplements, and emerging technologies to determine what worked and what didn’t. However, we decided to focus our research on the science of ageing.
THE CELLULAR SCIENCE OF AGEING
With our background in medicine, we knew that ageing is fundamentally rooted in our 37 trillion cells. As we age, cellular repair and renewal processes begin to decline, which can negatively impact our appearance, overall well-being, and physical and mental performance.
Additionally, when cells don't function properly, we become more susceptible to age-related diseases. Different types of cells require different genes to be active to perform their specialized functions. This led us to explore epigenetics.
THE SIGNIFICANCE OF EPIGENETICS
Epigenetics is a scientifically backed, holistic approach to enhancing healthspan through lifestyle choices.
Epigenetics is a system of switches that regulate gene expression by turning genes on or off. These switches are influenced by environmental factors such as nutrition, exercise, and stress management. This means that the choices you make every day can effectively "edit” - and directly improve - how your genes and cells function.
Through extensive research and practical application, we also found that small, consistent and sustainable practices have a more lasting impact than occasional extreme interventions.
A BREAKTHROUGH MOMENT: HYPERBARIC OXYGEN THERAPY
We knew that every cell needs oxygen, a vital molecule that influences cellular performance, regeneration, and ultimately, how we age.
Katrin also had a personal motivation to improve her endurance. As an elite skier and ski tourer, she wanted to climb higher, go further, and not let age hold her back. With our deep understanding of the ageing process and the need for cellular repair and renewal, she began having Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT).
By using HBOT regularly, Katrin saw marked improvements in her energy, recovery time and VO₂ max. This is a key metric that t ypically declines with age and is one of the strongest predictors of long-term health.
This breakthrough demonstrated that we can repair and renew our cells, which can help us live better and healthier for longer. We also designed our own hyperbaric oxygen chamber to make the treatment more accessible for everyday life.
OUR MISSION AND VISION
Our mission is to transform how people approach ageing by naturally enhancing how they look, feel, and perform every day by unlocking the body's innate regenerative potential.
Our vision is to shift the narrative around ageing from one of inevitable decline to one of continued regeneration, resilience and reinvention.
Through EpigenEdit we aim to help more people experience the transformation we've seen in our own and our patients' lives.
